Down from 10:16 yesterday.

Nothing super new. I took Sunday off. It was gross and rainy, and I felt I’d earned it. I ran 30 minutes yesterday, and again today. Today I ran with J., so that caused me to go faster than usual. It wore me out, but I ended up averaging 10:03 per mile (versus 10:16 the day before), so I guess that’s cool. I’m not really in this for speed – not at this point, anyway, but measurable improvement is neat.

I am wondering how long it will be before the 30 minute run doesn’t seem so tough. I haven’t really been able to experience that whole “running as therapy” thing lately because I’ve been working so hard just to make it through to the end. The mental effects of running are my favorite part, and surely why it’s so addictive.

It hurts now, but one day this will be your warm up.

I’m sad because I had to cancel Spotify Premium today. I did the one month free trial, and I would love to continue it, but I just can’t justify the expense right now. The weird thing was that the cancellation confirmation said it would end 4/17. I haven’t been charged, and I don’t see any pending charges in my bank account, so I’m hoping that I’m getting a free bonus month for no particular reason.

I just threw together a new playlist, since I was thinking that I’d better take advantage while it lasts. I think maybe I’m kind of proud of this one, if for no other reason than it makes me giggle.

Running’s going well. I’m getting faster, but busting my ass and loving every minute of it. Ok, there are some minutes I don’t love, but it’s mostly great. I tacked a long walk onto the end of my run yesterday and got caught in the wind and rain. The result:


Yes, I wear makeup when I run, and I’m not sorry.

The weather was beautiful this afternoon (around 60ºF and sunny!), so I went out again. I know I’m not supposed to do it consecutive days at this point, but I do it anyway. My preference is to go four days in a row as long as my body doesn’t tell me differently, and take two days off. Maybe I’ll pay for that later. I took a short walk with J and Z (but not Jay Z, unfortunately) after my run since they were strolling on the greenway while I was running. It was nice.

I made another playlist that I used yesterday and today, and it’s pretty great. REALLY love “Is This How You Feel?”

I love running again. I’m not where I was before, but I’m getting a little better and faster every time. I think I may even like it better now than I did before.

One of my favorite things about running is listening to music. I’ve had a lifelong love affair with music, but for some reason I’ve neglected it a lot in recent years. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I watch waaaaay too much tv.

Anyway, I decided to give Spotify another chance for running purposes, and I’ve been very pleased. In order to make the music available away from home on the app, I had to sign up for a free month of Spotify Premium. I’m going to be sad when my month is up because paying for it just doesn’t fit in my slim budget right now.

Right now my workout consists of a five minute warmup, 20 minutes of run/walk intervals and a five minute cool down. With that in mind, I made a Spotify playlist that’s about 30 minutes long, and I kind of love this one. You can find it here.

Running is going great. I hate rest days. Last night I was feeling stressed and anxious and found myself wishing I could run, but that wasn’t possible since yesterday morning made three straight days of running. Then I just wished I could have a cigarette (I didn’t).

I’m still getting better every time I go out, but I haven’t attempted to run more than three minutes at a time yet. I imagine that will happen next week.

I’m also losing weight – I’ve lost a little over 20 pounds since the beginning of June. I’m starting to feel like I look better, and I’m beginning to hate my body less (I’m still 15 pounds or so from liking it).

All of that is pretty boring to anyone who isn’t me, but here’s the playlist I just threw together for tomorrow morning. Seems like good Friday jams.

I’ve heard Richard Marx described as Yacht Rock, but I’m not sure that he fits. A little to late, maybe? I’ve decided to include him in the playlist anyway – for two reasons, neither of which are related to Yacht Rock.

Richard Marx receives YACHT ROCK POINTS for:

  1. that sweet mullet (which is especially awesome in the video below)
  2. being my favorite tweeting celebrity (weird, I know)

Sorry for missing out on a couple of these. I’ve been too busy with diapers for the last few weeks… Oh, and Percocet for awhile there, but I’m somewhat out of the fog now, and ready to listen to the smooth sounds of Hall & Oates with my little girl (who hopefully will not grow up to be like the subject of this song).
